Golden Pheasant, aka Chinese Pheasant

The Golden Pheasant is considered to be one of the most popular species of pheasant and is home in the mountainous forests of China. It was imported in Europe around a century ago, and became a popular "gamebird", bred for the hunt. Little is known about its behaviour in its natural habitat, for it is a shy little bird. Clumsy in flight, metallic in its voice. It rated high in the looking-good-category though! Male Golden pheasants can easily be identified by their bright colors. Shiny red underparts, dark colored wings and a marvellous golden crest -with a touch of red- to top it off. This particular male is in a fine condition, with just a little rapture in its crest. Still sexy though!
