Description

Marvellous safari chair! The leather upholstery gives it an effortless casual character. The smooth rosewood frames glow warmly red. Scandinavian design from mid 20th century. The leather and wood are in perfect condition.

The design of the chair has its roots in the "campaign furniture" of the 19th century, when armies were on the move and 'visited' exotic cultures and jungle scenery. Kaare Klint based his 1933 design for the 'safari chair' on the 'roorkhee chair', which was created by British army engineers stationed in the alike named Indian town. In 1964, Swedish designer Arne Norell applied his magical twist on the design and came up with the 'sirocco chair'. Through the design's long history, many variations circulated, with different types of upholstery. All of them though are characterized by their refreshing way of combining materials and unique appeal.
